Position Overview

Lighthouse Therapy LLC is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher to provide district-wide services across multiple schools in Alaska. This is a hybrid 1099 independent contractor position designed for a professional who thrives on flexibility and dynamic service delivery.


You will work both virtually and in-person to assess, design, and implement adapted physical education programs for students with diverse learning and motor needs, ensuring compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 plans.


Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Instruction & Consultation: Deliver specialized physical education instruction to eligible students across multiple district schools through a combination of on-site visits and virtual sessions.

  • Assessments & Evaluations: Conduct comprehensive motor skill and physical fitness assessments to determine student eligibility for APE services.

  • IEP Development & Participation: Draft measurable, standards-based IEP goals and objectives. Participate in virtual or on-site IEP/504 team meetings.

  • Adaptation & Accommodation: Modify general physical education curricula, equipment, and environment to ensure safe and meaningful student participation.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with general physical education teachers, special education staff, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and school administrators across the district.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate, timely progress monitoring, service delivery logs, and evaluation reports in accordance with state and district standards.

Position Details & Compensation

  • Employment Status: 1099 Independent Contractor

  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Combined remote telepractice and scheduled on-site school visits)

  • Coverage Area: District-wide travel across assigned school locations

  • Travel Compensation: Dedicated travel stipend provided to cover expenses associated with district-wide and on-site visits.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physical Education, Special Education, or Kinesiology (with an emphasis or concentration in Adapted Physical Education).

  • Certification:

    • Valid Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Physical Education and/or Adapted Physical Education.

    • Eligibility for or current Teaching Certification in the state of Alaska.

    • CAPE (Certified Adapted Physical Educator) certification preferred.

  • Experience: Prior experience providing APE services in a K-12 school district setting preferred. Experience or comfort with hybrid/telepractice service delivery is a plus.

  • Requirements: Reliable transportation for district travel, high-speed internet for remote work, and ability to pass state and federal background checks.
