WHAT ARE SOME OF THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A 1099 CONTRACTOR & A W-2 EMPLOYEE?
It’s about giving you back your freedom.
Therapists want freedom and flexibility – at least those are the ones we cater to here at Lighthouse Therapy.
While we primarily offer 1099 contracting positions, we now also have select W-2 opportunities available to meet diverse therapist needs.
1099 contracting remains our preferred model as it’s the legal option that allows therapists true schedule flexibility without professional consequences.

What is teletherapy and how is it different from in-person therapy?
Teletherapy is simply therapy—just delivered through a screen instead of across a desk. Whether your students need speech therapy, mental health support, occupational therapy, or special education services, they can get it from a licensed therapist without leaving the classroom (or home).
At Lighthouse Therapy, our sessions are done through secure Zoom links that are fully HIPAA and FERPA-compliant. Translation: We take privacy and safety as seriously as you do.
So what makes it different from in-person therapy?
Here’s a simple breakdown:
- Location:
- Teletherapy happens online. Students join from school or home using a device.
- In-person therapy happens face-to-face, usually at the school.
- What students need:
- Teletherapy: Just a device, an internet connection, and a camera.
- In-person: No tech is needed, but you’ll need the therapist to be physically present.
- Flexibility:
- Teletherapy gives districts more options for scheduling and staffing—especially if you’re stretched across campuses or in a rural area.
- In-person requires someone local and available, which isn’t always easy.
- Connection with students:
- This one matters. Yes, therapists can build meaningful relationships virtually. We’ve seen it hundreds of times. But some students really do thrive with someone in the room. We’ll help you figure that out.
- Access to experts:
- Teletherapy lets you bring in seasoned therapists from anywhere—no matter how remote your district is. In-person? You’re limited to who’s nearby.
How do virtual, hybrid, and in-person therapy models work at Lighthouse?
Here’s the truth: no two school districts are the same. That’s why we don’t shove you into one therapy model. At Lighthouse, we offer three flexible paths, and we help you pick the one that actually fits your students, your staff, and your situation.
1. Virtual Therapy
This is the simplest setup—and for many schools, the most effective.
Students meet with licensed therapists over secure Zoom calls. That’s it.
No fancy platforms. No extra software to train your team on.
You give us a student list—we handle scheduling, documentation, and setup.
Your therapist shows up. Your student logs in. Support happens.
It’s that smooth.
2. Hybrid Therapy
Want the best of both worlds? This may be the option for you.
With hybrid therapy, the same therapist sees your students virtually and shows up in person on a regular schedule.
Maybe it’s a therapist who comes in twice a month. Maybe once a week.
Either way, your students get consistency with a real human they recognize and trust.
3. In-Person Therapy
Need someone physically there every week?
We’ll recruit, hire, and onboard a therapist who shows up at your school like clockwork.
But here’s what makes our model different: they’re not just a temp or a contractor.
They’re a full Lighthouse team member—clinically supported, mentored, and backed by our whole system.
That means they’re never flying solo. And you’re never left hanging.
No matter which model you choose, we’ll guide you through it step by step—ensuring your students are supported, your compliance is covered, and your team isn’t overwhelmed.
We’ve designed this to take work off your plate, not add to it.
Let’s figure out what works best for your school. Together.
If you’d like to look at a handy comparison chart, then head over to our delivery model page, and scroll to the bottom.
How fast can we get started?
Here’s the short answer: pretty fast—if we’ve already got the right therapist lined up.
If it’s virtual therapy…
We can often get started within a few days. Seriously.
If a licensed therapist is available in your state and the schedule fits, we’re ready to roll.
If we need to hire for your virtual therapy role…
That’s a different timeline—and we’re upfront about it.
- Most positions take 30 to 45 days to fill.
- During off-peak hiring seasons, it can take up to 90 days.
What about hybrid or in-person therapy?
Same general timeline. But here’s the deal:
If you need in-person support, start early—especially before the school year begins.
Those roles are harder to fill mid-year, and we don’t want your students waiting for services to begin.
Are your therapists certified in my state?
Yes—100% certified. No shortcuts. No surprises.
Every therapist we place is fully licensed in your state. Before anyone starts working with your students, we verify all state-specific credentials and double-check that they meet your district’s compliance standards.
No guesswork. No last-minute scrambling.
We work across all 50 states, and we only partner with experienced clinicians who understand how school-based services really work—IEPs, documentation, timelines, the whole nine yards.
Whether it’s virtual, hybrid, or in-person therapy, you can feel confident:
Your students are in qualified, trusted hands.
And if you ever have a question about a therapist’s credentials, we’re just a phone call away. We’ll walk you through how we vet and assign your provider—because transparency builds trust. And that’s how we do things at Lighthouse.
Do you offer assessments?
Yeah, we’ve got you covered—virtually.
At Lighthouse Therapy, our licensed clinicians provide a full range of assessments to support your students’ needs—but only for virtual and hybrid delivery models.
Whether you’re looking for speech and language evaluations, occupational therapy assessments, or full psychoeducational testing, we can handle it remotely.
Here’s what we offer through virtual and hybrid models:
- Speech Assessments – for articulation, language development, fluency, and more.
- OT Assessments – to evaluate fine motor skills, sensory needs, and daily function.
- Psychoeducational Evaluations – for cognitive, emotional, and academic support planning.
Delivering services in person?
In those cases, assessment materials are the school’s responsibility.
Not sure exactly what your student needs? That’s okay.
We’ll walk you through your options and help you figure out the best next step—without overwhelming you with jargon or paperwork.
You don’t have to guess. Just reach out, and we’ll sort it out together.
What do I need for a teletherapy session? (Equipment, space, and internet)
Honestly? Not much. Just a few basics to get your students up and running:
Here’s what they need:
- A device:
Laptop, desktop, or tablet—with a working camera and mic.
(No fancy gear required.) - A solid internet connection:
It doesn’t need to be blazing fast. Suppose your internet is fast enough to watch a YouTube video. In that case, it is typically fast enough for a smooth therapy session. - A quiet, private space:
Nothing fancy. Just a spot where students can focus, hear clearly, and feel comfortable.
That’s it.
We handle everything else—from setting up secure Zoom links to managing all the documentation behind the scenes.
You don’t need new systems or extra tech.
You just need a student who’s ready to grow—and we’ll take care of the rest.
Is teletherapy secure and confidential?
Yes—100%. Here’s how we protect your students.
At Lighthouse Therapy, every teletherapy session is done through secure, encrypted platforms that are fully HIPAA and FERPA-compliant. We use secure Zoom links and safe communication tools to keep your students’ information protected at all times.
But security isn’t just about tech—it’s about people.
Our therapists are trained in school-based confidentiality best practices, so they know exactly how to protect student privacy while still delivering real support.
And the documentation?
That’s all handled in our secure electronic medical record system (EMR)—which means your district doesn’t have to manage anything on the backend.
From technology to clinical practice, every part of our process is built to protect your students and meet school privacy standards.
Because when it comes to your students, we don’t mess around with trust.
How much does it cost, and do you accept insurance?
Let’s make this simple.
We don’t bill insurance companies. All of our services are contracted directly with school districts.
Suppose your school submits to Medicaid, no problem. In that case, we’ll handle the state-specific Medicaid documentation so your team can file it without extra hassle.
How pricing works:
Your cost depends on:
- The type of service (speech, OT, mental health, etc.)
- The delivery model you choose (virtual, hybrid, or in-person)
- How often your students need support (hours or days per week)
Here’s what you won’t get from us: hidden fees, surprise invoices, or vague quotes.
We’ll give you a clear, upfront proposal so you know exactly what to expect before we start.
Want the full breakdown?

What makes Lighthouse different from recruiters or staffing agencies?
Here’s the big difference: we’re not recruiters (although we do have them on staff). That may sound confusing, so let’s unpack that more.
We’re a therapy company run by therapists, for therapists, for the betterment of students.
That means our mission isn’t “fill the spot and move on.”
It’s “make sure your students get consistent, high-quality therapy from someone who’s supported, prepared, and here for the long haul.”
When we place a therapist in your school (virtual, hybrid, or in-person), they are not a temp just passing through.
They’re part of the Lighthouse team. They get:
- Ongoing mentorship from experienced clinicians
- Clinical support whenever they need it
- Access to resources built for school-based therapy
The result? You get a professional who’s confident, consistent, and committed to your students’ success—not someone learning on the fly and left to figure things out alone.
Recruiting agencies? Their job is to fill openings as fast as possible, often with minimal follow-up.
Our job is to partner with your school, stay connected, and make sure therapy runs smoothly from day one—and keeps running smoothly all year.
